Maurix Baru (Jean Paul Maurice Mbarushimana), chanteur, pianiste, compositeur et producteur, est un artiste reconnu dans les genres Afro-opera, Afrobeat et Afro-soul. Il est notamment célèbre au Rwanda pour ses tubes Mama Ndakuririmbira et Abasangirangendo, une collaboration avec la légendaire Cécile Kayirebwa et pour avoir créé le style de l’Afro-opera.
Il a également composé et produit pour l’Unicef-Rwanda et travaillé avec des artistes comme Tom Close, The Ben, Riderman, Urban Boys et The Brothers. En tant que défenseur de la paix, il a composé pour l’organisation La Benevolencija – Rwanda. Il poursuit désormais sa carrière à Montréal, où il cherche à faire découvrir l’Afro-opera à un public international.
