Explorer soi-même et parler des émotions et expériences vécues sont les sujets d’ATHENEA. L’immigration, les peines d’amour et d’autres sujets font partie aussi de sa source d’inspiration. Le mélange de cultures dans son bagage et son entourage, lui permet d’innover dans ses compositions. Elle joue avec les genres musicaux populaires latinos et, des fois, dans la meme chanson (son, charanga, rumba, timba, cumbia, etc.). Sa curiosité la pousse a jouer avec les demi-tons dans les mélodies, et comme résultat on obtient des lignes mélodiques nostalgiques et mélancoliques. Son œuvre est la déclaration sur l’insistance à garder les cultures et traditions.

Melanie Monette Fowler Flores, connue professionnellement sous le nom de ATHENEA, est une chanteuse, compositrice, productrice, danseuse, chorégraphe, actrice, mannequin, activiste et créatrice de mode, née à La Havane, Cuba. Elle a étudié la percussion et le piano à l’Escuela Elemental de Música Manuel Saumell, puis les matières théoriques au Conservatoire Amadeo Roldán.

Peu après l’obtention de son diplôme, elle déménage avec sa famille à Montréal, où elle décide d’entrer dans le monde du design de mode au Collège Lasalle. Sa première présentation publique a eu lieu à l’âge de 5 ans à la maison de la culture de sa ville natale. À l’âge de 9 ans, elle a eu l’occasion de partager la scène avec des personnalités de la musique cubaine telles que Rosita Fornés, Luis Carbonell, Buena Fe, entre autres. Déjà établie à Montréal, elle a fondé avec Ricardo Soriano le groupe Q’bolà, devenu Q’bolà Orchestre, en 2018.

Depuis sa création, le groupe s’est produit dans des lieux tels que le Club Balattou, La Sala Rossa entre autres. Parmi ses reconnaissances personnelles figure le 1er prix de la chanson «Marta Valdés», dans la catégorie de l’interprétation avec la chanson «20 Años». ATHENEA prépare la sortie de ses nouvelles chansons en tant que soliste et compositrice, ce qui lui donne l’occasion de montrer une autre facette de l’artiste et la possibilité d’expérimenter davantage avec sa musique. Le public, a propos de sa prestation comme chanteuse principale de Q’bolá Orchestre, ont commenté: ‘’époustouflant’’, ‘’tu domines la scène’’, ‘’tu es explosive’’, ‘’on imagine jamais ce que tu vas faire’’, ‘’pas seulement tu danses bien, mais tu vies la chanson que tu interprètes’’.

Melanie Monette Fowler Flores, known professionally as ATHENEA, is a singer, composer, producer, dancer, choreographer, actress, model, activist and fashion designer, born in Havana, Cuba. She studied percussion and piano at the Escuela Elemental de Música Manuel Saumell, and then theoretical subjects at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán.

Shortly after graduation, she moved with her family to Montreal, where she decided to enter the world of fashion design at Lasalle College. Her first public presentation took place at the age of 5 at the Maison de la Culture in her hometown. At the age of 9, she had the opportunity to share the stage with Cuban music personalities such as Rosita Fornés, Luis Carbonell, Buena Fe, among others. Already established in Montreal, she founded with Ricardo Soriano the group Q’bolà, now Q’bolà Orchestra, in 2018.

Since its inception, the group has performed in venues such as Club Balattou, La Sala Rossa among others. Among its personal recognitions is the 1st prize for the song «Marta Valdés», in the category of interpretation with the song «20 Años». ATHENEA is preparing the release of her new songs as a soloist and composer, which gives her the opportunity to show another side of the artist and the possibility of experimenting more with her music.
